For The Love Of Soy
Another big change has come.
For the past year, I have eaten protein bars, meal replacement bars, or what have you for two meals a day. Mostly, I ate Zone bars because they are actually pretty good, and losing weight while eating a dark chocolate candy bar is pretty cool.
However, last week, I made a decision to go off soy again. I used to limit my consumption of soy to once or twice a week. That's the way it should be for me.
While soy can be very good for you, for people like me who have a thyroid condition, not so much. It greatly inhibits the absorption of the medication I take. In fact, I should not take my medication 4 hours before or after I eat any soy. I also have to take my medication on an empty stomach. This means, I pretty much can not eat the stuff.
It just isn't good.
On top of all of that, my skin has gone crazy. My skin looks worse than a 15 year old boy's these days. I hate it. I fully believe that all the soy, meaning extra estrogen like hormones, is the culprit.
So, all this and more lead me to the decision that it is time yet again to lay off the soy, and that means off the bars.
I will admit, I am a little scared. Eating bars has been my diet, and it has worked. I have been able to lose well over 100 pounds. That's right, 100.
I am not yet where I want to be weight wise. I would like to lose a little more, but this time, I am going to have to do it without a dark chocolate almond bar for breakfast each morning.
I need to learn how to eat again with out gaining, and more importantly, still losing. I haven't done so well there, so far, but I know how to fix it.
When I first went vegetarian, I ate nothing but cheese, pickle, and ketchup sandwiches. I didn't know how to eat. Still, I try to run to cheese as a meaty substitute when I don't use soy. No more, though. Cheese and my thighs get along far too well for me to keep doing that.
Sparkpeople and I will be joined at the hip again.
I will monitor what I eat. I will be careful.
I can do this the right, healthier way. Hear me roar.
