Lucky For Me...

As it states on my profile, I am a vegetarian. To be a bit more specific, I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian. That means I eat eggs and dairy, but no meat.
On the no meat thing, I am pretty strict. Honestly, though, I don't believe that being a vegetarian has anything to do with being healthy by itself. In fact, my body is literally living proof that it doesn't necessarily makeyou healthier. When I first became a vegetarian in college, I ate nothing but cheese, pickle, and kechup sandwiches on white bread for abotu a year. As I said, healthy and vegetarian are not necessarily related.
However, just how strict I am now does prevent me from eating some things I would love to over indulge on.

I don't eat gelatin. Gelatin is made from animal hooves or legs, boiled down. While some can be man made now, you never know the difference unless you investigate it. So, if I see gelatin on a label, I don't eat eat.

Do you have any idea how many desserts have gelatin in them? It is ridiculous. I sit here with a box of gummy Jolly Ranchers on my lap, given to my children by a friend, and I would love one, but alass, I just can't get on board with eating hooves. So, no candy for me. The big box of Valentines Day chocolate that I bought for them, same thing. So many cakes, pies, and more all have that nasty leggy thing going on. So, I won't partake.

In that regard alone, being a vegetarian really does make me a healthier person. So, there is at least the one benefit for me.

There are many other things that I am still learning about, and cut out once I find the animal connection, but until I know for sure, I live in ignorance, and eat more unhealthy stuff.
